First of all, the idea of Abe Lincoln as a Vampire hunter is totally and utterly absurd!!! Truly! when we think of Abe, I'm sure what comes to mind is the distinguished President of America that ended slavery, led America through the civil war and popularised the phrase, "A government of the people, by the people and for the people". (i hope i got that correct. lol. Government wasnt my favourite course back in school).
But then, if u know the director Tim Burton, known for his popular works such as 'Dark Shadows' and 'Edward Scissorhands', you would no longer be stunned because, Tim majors in making the absurd interesting and almost believable. i must say he totally nailed the movie. Portraying Abe in such a light not only gave a much deeper depth to the former president, but showed us that he was human just like us before he became a legend. And of cos, the movie makes young Abe seem fun too.
If all these things still dont encourage you to watch the movie, then the gory vampire-slaying adventures should woe you. Dont forget the American Civil War as well, the movie embellishes on history by telling us that it was not just a war between mankind, but a war to save mankind from the monstrosity of vampires. Now if that isnt cool, i wonder what is.
"History remembers the battle, but forgets the war. For whatever history remembers of me , if it remembers at all, it shall only be a fraction of the truth. For whatever else i am, a husband, a lawyer, a president, i shall always think of myself as a man who struggled against darkness."- Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
